VETERAN councillor Dr Shah Imtiaz was involved in many valley campaigns.
These included the former Phurnacite Plant pollution issue, the 1980s Miners Strike, the Aberdare Hospital Action Group and the fight to save Tower Colliery.
He was also a supporter of the creation of a Welsh Assembly.Dr Imtiaz was an ardent anti-nuclear war campaigner and chairman of Cynon Valley CND.
He was the county chairman for the Stop the War Coalition in RCT and as an active member of the Against Nuclear Proliferation movement, which was given the honour of installing a peace pole in front of Aberdare Library.
The pole was a gift from the people of Japan to recognise the local authority’s contribution to world peace.
